Two kinds of agreement on one player
Open the player, choose Commercial, then Agreements. The tab has two separate bands. Regulated: playing & representation holds the contracts that football regulations govern. Standalone agreements holds every other agreement the agency records for the player.
A Standalone agreement stands on its own. It is never part of a representation agreement, and recording one never changes a contract.
Regulated agreements: playing and representation
A playing contract is the player's employment contract with a club. A representation agreement is the agency's mandate with the player. Add either with Add contract. Their end dates drive the expiry timeline, the Decision Clock and alerts, and they are the two sides of a playing Commission setup.
Standalone agreements
Choose Add agreement in the Standalone agreements band. Choose an Agreement type, then fill the generic fields: the title, the term (start date, an end date or none for an open-ended agreement), whether it renews automatically, the notice period, the governing law and notes. The player and the agency are added as parties, and a guardian can be added for a player under 18.
Each row shows the agreement, its type and other party, the term, the time to expiry or its status, the notice period and its signing state. Choose a row to edit it.
System and custom agreement types
Relai ships two system types, both part of the Management & commercial agreements module: the Management & commercial agreement and the Brand agreement. They show only while an owner or admin has the module on in Settings › Agency profile.
For anything else, such as an image rights or consultancy agreement, an owner or admin adds a custom type in the Agreement types card of the same page. Choose Add custom type, give it a name and answer one question: does the agency provide services to the client under this agreement, other than transfer representation? The answer decides whether Relai shows the FFAR Other Services notes for it. Custom types use the generic fields only, and they are never hidden by a module.
The Management & commercial agreement
Under a Management & commercial agreement, the agency represents the player's commercial interests for a commission on Defined commercial income. It covers no Football Agent Services. Its terms are:
Scope and exclusivity
Tick what it covers, such as Endorsements & sponsorship, Image rights or Media & appearances. Choose Exclusive or Non-exclusive, and add a territory if it names one.
Defined commercial income
Tick the categories of income that carry commission. Playing-contract remuneration, signing-on fees and transfer-related sums are never Defined commercial income.
Post-termination commission
Turn on Commission continues after it ends when the agreement allows it. Enter for how many months, and whether it includes renewals of deals agreed during the term.
A standard rate and different rates
Set one Commercial commission rate. It is the standard rate for every ticked category. When a category takes another rate, choose Add a different rate, pick the category and enter its rate, for example 25% as standard and 15% on image rights payments. Remove a different rate to return that category to the standard rate.
Choose the Basis: Gross or Net, as the agreement states. A rate is recorded, never an amount. The rates suggest the agency's rate for each Brand earning in a commercial setup.
Generate, sign and mark the agreement active
Generate the document
From the row's menu, choose Generate document. A Management & commercial agreement fills Relai's starting-point template, or your own version of it, from the agreement. A custom type uses one of your custom templates. You can edit every word before it goes. Early termination and dispute wording is left as bracketed instructions for your lawyer.
Send it for signature
Send it through the usual signing flow. For a player under 18, the guardian signs as well.
Approve Mark agreement active
When everyone has signed, Relai raises an Inbox proposal, Mark agreement active, with the sealed PDF as its evidence. Approving it marks the agreement active and links the signed PDF. Its terms do not change. A decline, cancellation or expiry leaves the agreement as it was.
Signed elsewhere? Choose Attach signed agreement to file the PDF on the player. For a draft, you can mark it active at the same time. A Brand agreement comes on the Brand's own paper, so attach its signed copy this way.
Status, end dates and notice deadlines
- Draft
- Recorded but not yet in force. Only a draft can be deleted.
- Active
- In force. It appears on the expiry timeline when it has an end date.
- Ended
- It ran its course. Only its notes can change.
- Terminated
- It ended early, on a recorded date, by the agency, the player or both. Only its notes can change.
Use Mark ended or Terminate from the row's menu. Relai records the termination; it does not write termination or compensation wording.
An active agreement with an end date appears on the expiry timeline and the player's Decision Clock. When it renews automatically and has a notice period, the clock also shows the last day to give notice.
Advisory FFAR notes
A Management & commercial agreement, or a custom type that provides services to the client, can show notes in its sheet, under its row and on the send step:
- Other Services and representation
- The agreement covers Other Services and the player has, or recently had, a representation agreement with your agency.
- No end date, Term over two years or Renews automatically
- The term may be read as extending the agency's tie to the player beyond the two years FFAR allows for representation.
- Possible undue advantage
- The player is a prospect or has no active representation agreement with your agency.
- Player is a minor
- A parent or legal guardian must also sign, and national law may add limits.
- Governing law
- Names the governing law, or asks you to set it. Relai does not check national law.
Each note cites its article and shows its status. The Other Services presumption (FFAR Art. 15(3)–(4)) is currently suspended by FIFA Circular 1873, so its note says so. The FFAR notes can be hidden with the workspace's FFAR compliance checks setting.
