Two agreements, one commercial setup
A Brand agreement records an agreement under which a Brand pays the player, such as a boot deal or a paid appearance. The agency is not a party to it. A Management & commercial agreement is the agreement under which the agency represents the player's commercial interests, at a rate for each category of commercial income.
A Commercial commission setup pairs the two and records the agency's rate for each Brand earning. This guide follows a fictional example: Teodor Lindqvast, a 25% Management & commercial agreement with Corvane Sports Management, and a boot deal with the Brand Strideforge.
Turn on the Management & commercial agreements module
Open agency settings
An owner or admin opens Settings › Agency profile and finds the Modules card.
Turn the module on
Turn on Management & commercial agreements. While it is on, the Agreement defaults panel can pre-fill a new agreement with a commission rate, a notice period and a term.
Add the Management & commercial agreement
On the player, choose Commercial, then Agreements. In Standalone agreements, choose Add agreement and the type Management & commercial agreement. Tick the categories of Defined commercial income it covers and set the Commercial commission rate, the standard rate. Use Add a different rate for a category with its own rate, for example 15% on image rights payments.
Record the exclusivity, the basis (gross or net) and any Post-termination commission: the number of months it runs after the agreement ends, and whether it includes renewals. These settings decide the Commission window later.
See How Agreements work → for generating and signing the agreement.
Record the Brand agreement
Choose the Brand agreement type
Choose Add agreement again and the type Brand agreement. Its parties are the player and one Brand; the agency is not a party. Choose the Brand, or create it if it is new. A guardian can be added for a player under 18. A club cannot be a party.
Add the signed date and the term
Enter the dates and the signed date. The signed date is optional when you save, but a commercial setup cannot be confirmed without it.
Record who secured it
Set Secured by to The agency, The player, Another agent or Unknown, with an optional note. Under a non-exclusive Management & commercial agreement, only deals the agency secured carry commission by default.
You can also record the exclusivity and a short category, such as Football boots. Brands draft their own paper, so Relai has no template for a Brand agreement. Use Attach signed agreement to file the signed copy on the player.
Record the Brand earnings
Once the agreement is added, open it again. Its sheet now has an Earnings section. Choose Add earning for each fee, royalty, bonus or in-kind item, with a label, a category of commercial income and a currency. Each row is one of five kinds:
- Fixed fee
- An amount paid once on a date, or monthly, quarterly or annually from a first payment date.
- Per-deliverable fee
- An amount for each post, appearance, shoot day or other deliverable, with an optional cap per agreement year.
- Royalty
- A percentage of a stated basis, such as net sales of a signature boot. No amount.
- Conditional bonus
- An amount paid when a condition is met, with an optional season or date.
- In kind
- Goods or services the player receives, recorded at an estimated value.
Choose Save earnings. Each save writes a new version, and earlier versions stay in the history unchanged. Playing remuneration, signing-on fees and transfer money are never Brand earnings.
Review the sponsor proposal
When a Brand agreement becomes active, Relai raises a proposal in your Inbox to record the Brand as one of the player's sponsors. It is never set automatically.
If your workspace has several Brand-type player fields, such as Current sponsor and Boot sponsor, choose which one to set on the proposal card. Current sponsor is chosen for you when the workspace has it. Approve the proposal to write the field. A sponsor is a role: it records no terms.
Confirm the commercial setup
Open the setup
On the player, choose Commercial, then Commissions. The Brand agreement appears in the Commercial band as Not set up. Choose Open.
Check the pairing
When exactly one Management & commercial agreement overlaps the Brand agreement, Relai pairs it for you. Otherwise choose one. It can be active, ended or terminated.
Read the Commission window and the flags
The Commission window line shows the dates within which the Brand earnings carry commission. It starts at the later of the two agreements' starts and ends with the Management & commercial agreement, plus any Post-termination commission months for a deal secured during the term. Flags beside the rows, such as No category rate or Outside window, point at what to check. They never block a confirm.
Decide each row and confirm
Rates are pre-filled from the agreement's rate for each category. In-kind rows are excluded by default, because they record an estimated value rather than money paid. Include or exclude each row, then choose Confirm setup.
Add a scenario with a hypothetical termination date
In the setup panel, choose Add scenario. Choose the period, then state the assumptions: a count for each per-deliverable fee, an assumed income for each royalty and whether each conditional bonus is triggered.
To see what continues after an early end, set a Hypothetical termination date. It moves the Commission window as if the Management & commercial agreement ended on that date, and it changes no agreement. Payments after the window end show as outside the commission window. Totals stay separate for each currency.
Amend the earnings and review the setup
When the Brand changes what it pays, edit the rows in the Earnings section and save them. The new version makes the setup Stale on the player's Commissions tab and on the workspace Commissions page, and the player gets the alert Commercial setup needs review.
Open the setup, choose Review, check the rates against the new earnings and confirm again. Saved scenarios built on the earlier setup show Needs review; they are not rewritten.
Capture Brand agreements from email or PDF
While the module is on, forward a Brand agreement, or an email about one, to your Relai address. Relai can propose Create Brand agreement in the Inbox. Every field quotes the passage it came from or is left blank, and Secured by is filled only when the source says who secured the deal. Approving creates the agreement and its first earnings version, and files the document on the player.
An amendment, such as a fee that rises from July, becomes an Update Brand earnings proposal on the matching Brand agreement. Approving it saves the next earnings version, so the setup becomes Stale. When Relai cannot tell a Brand agreement from a Management & commercial agreement, it proposes nothing.
The Other Services near a transfer note
A confirmed setup can show the note Other Services near a transfer. It appears when the Brand agreement was signed within 24 months before or after a completed Deal for the same player.
It refers to a FIFA rule (FFAR Art. 15(3)–(4)) that would treat commercial services close to a transfer as part of the agent's transfer work, so that their commission would count toward the agent fee cap. That rule is currently suspended: FIFA Circular 1873 suspended Art. 15(3)–(4) together with the cap. Art. 16(3)(d), which forbids getting around the cap, is formally in force, but it has no effect while the cap is suspended. The note is therefore quiet and labelled Suspended.
