The agreement fact and the action stay separate
Clause Watch records what an agreement says, where that wording came from and what the team needs to keep in view. A clause belongs to the player and can also be linked to its contract, originating deal or commission term.
Monitoring does not turn a possible consequence into an asserted entitlement. A recorded transfer can make a sell-on clause Triggered, for example, but a person still reviews the evidence and confirms what happens in Commissions.
The clause kinds
Choose the kind that best describes the signed term. Standard kinds provide the fields and actions needed for that watch; Custom keeps important wording visible without forcing it into the wrong structure.
- Sell-on clause
- Keeps a possible percentage entitlement visible after the originating deal, including when the player is now a former client.
- Appearance trigger
- Watches an agreed appearances, starts, goals or other threshold and the consequence written into the contract.
- Release clause
- Preserves the amount, currency and any window restrictions as deal context. It is watched or lapsed, not triggered.
- Bonus clause
- Records a payment that may become due when an agreed event occurs, such as promotion or qualification.
- Custom clause
- Keeps any other material term visible when it does not fit a standard kind. It can be triggered, settled or lapsed manually.
Every clause keeps its provenance
Extracted from a contract
When you upload a PDF, Word document or scan while creating a contract, Relai reads the document progressively and proposes the facts and clauses it can support. Each proposed clause includes its document, page, clause reference and exact wording for review.
Entered manually
Add a clause directly from the player dossier when there is no suitable document or the wording needs to be recorded by hand. The card identifies it as a manual record rather than presenting it as extracted evidence.
Edited without losing the source
Correcting an extracted clause does not turn it into a manual one. Its original source document and citation remain attached so the team can reopen the evidence later.
Understand the watch states
The saved workflow moves from Watching to Triggered, then Settled or Lapsed. Approaching and Needs input are display states calculated from the latest appearance-count evidence; they do not rewrite the signed clause.
- Watching
- The clause is active, but nothing needs immediate action.
- Approaching
- An appearance trigger is within its chosen warning distance, based on the latest recorded count.
- Needs input
- A current count or clause detail is missing. Relai asks for the fact instead of guessing it.
- Triggered
- A person has recorded evidence that the agreed event occurred. The consequence still needs a separate decision.
- Settled
- The triggered clause has been handled and its outcome recorded.
- Lapsed
- The clause no longer needs monitoring. Its record and evidence remain available as history.
The watchlist answers what needs you
The workspace Clause watchlist groups every active clause by decision urgency: Triggered first, then Approaching, Needs input and Watching. Each row shows the player, clause kind, plain-language meaning, key amount or threshold and a route back to the player dossier.
Settled and Lapsed records leave this active view without disappearing from the player's history. Active sell-on watches stay present for former players because the possible entitlement can outlive the agency mandate.
Clause attention joins the daily briefing
Clause Watch adds attention items to the same daily briefing used for the rest of the workspace. It surfaces an appearance threshold entering its warning band, an approaching count that has gone stale, or a Triggered clause that still has no recorded action.
These are prompts to review the source and update the record. They are not automated performance feeds or transfer-news assertions; the current count and transfer evidence are recorded by a person.
Actions preserve the human decision
Keep the watch input current
Update an appearance trigger with a non-negative count and an as-of date. For an active sell-on watch, record the destination club, transfer date and optional fee when a subsequent transfer is known.
Record the trigger with evidence
Mark a bonus, appearance or custom clause Triggered only when you have a reason or supporting evidence. A sell-on's Record transfer action performs the same state change while preserving the transfer details.
Review the proposed consequence
A sell-on or bonus can open the relevant commission flow. An extension trigger opens the contract editor with a proposed end date. Review and confirm that separate change; the trigger itself does not write it.
Close the watch deliberately
Mark a handled trigger Settled, or mark an active clause Lapsed when it no longer applies. Add a reason so the player timeline retains an auditable explanation.
Troubleshooting
An extracted clause says Reference
It came from an expired contract and was retained as historical evidence. Edit the contract review and choose Watch anyway only when active monitoring should continue.
An appearance trigger says Needs input
Open the player dossier, find the clause and update the current count with an as-of date. Relai cannot derive Approaching without that fact.
A clause does not appear on the watchlist
Settled and lapsed clauses leave the active watchlist but remain in the player dossier. Also confirm that an extracted historical clause was set to Watch anyway.
A former player still appears
That is intentional for an active sell-on watch. The entitlement can outlive the representation relationship, so it remains visible until settled or lapsed.
