Step-by-step guide

Connect Claude

Add Relai to Claude as a custom connector, sign in, choose what Claude can read, and ask your first question about your book.

Before you start

Relai connects to Claude through MCP, the Model Context Protocol. It is an open standard that lets an assistant call a set of tools on another service. Relai runs an MCP server that offers Claude tools for reading your workspace and, if you allow it, sending text in for your review. Claude calls a connection like this a custom connector.

You need a Claude plan that can add custom connectors. At the time of writing that means the paid individual plans and Team or Enterprise plans, where an organisation owner may need to enable connectors first. Claude's own guide to custom connectors has the current detail.

You also need a Relai account that belongs to the workspace you want Claude to read, and the workspace must allow AI assistants. It does by default; an owner or admin can turn it off under Settings → AI assistants.

Add Relai to Claude as a custom connector

01

Copy the Relai server address

This is the address Claude will connect to. It is the same for every member of the workspace.

/api/mcp
02

Open Connectors in Claude

In Claude, open Settings, then Connectors. On a Team or Enterprise plan the option may sit under your organisation's settings instead.

03

Add a custom connector

Choose Add custom connector. Name it Relai, paste the server address into the remote MCP server URL field, and confirm. Leave any advanced OAuth fields empty: Relai registers Claude as a client on its own.

Sign in to Relai and choose what Claude can do

01

Choose Connect

Once the connector is saved, Claude shows it as not connected. Choose Connect, and Claude opens a Relai page in your browser.

02

Sign in with your Relai account

If you are not already signed in, Relai asks you to sign in. Use the same account you use in the app. If you belong to more than one workspace, Relai then asks you to choose one. A connection belongs to one person and one workspace; you can connect another workspace separately later.

03

Allow access

The page reads "Claude wants to access your Relai workspace" and lists three permissions in plain words. Reading your roster, contracts, deals and tasks is always on. Reading wages and commission, and sending text into Relai for your review, are each your choice and are ticked by default. Untick either, then choose Allow access.

04

Return to Claude

Relai sends you back to Claude, where the connector now shows as connected. The connection also appears under Settings → AI assistants in Relai, with its permissions and an activity log.

Ask a first question

Start a new chat in Claude and make sure the Relai connector is enabled for it. Then try a question that only your workspace can answer:

Which of my players' playing contracts end in the next twelve months, and who at the club is my contact for each?

Claude reads your roster and contracts through Relai and answers with a link to each record. Open a link to check the record in Relai. If you allowed Claude to send text in, you can also tell it about a conversation and ask it to log it. That arrives in your Inbox as a captured source labelled Claude, and Relai turns it into proposals for you to approve or reject. Nothing is saved to a record until you approve it.

Troubleshooting

01

There is no option to add a custom connector

Custom connectors depend on your Claude plan, and on a Team or Enterprise plan an organisation owner may need to enable them first. Check Claude's guide for the plans that include them. Relai cannot change what Claude shows.

02

Sign-in fails or the page says the request expired

The connection request from Claude is only valid for a short time. Close the Relai tab, go back to Claude and choose Connect again, then complete sign-in in one go. If your browser blocks pop-ups, allow them for Claude and retry. Make sure you sign in with the account that belongs to the workspace you want; a different Relai account will not see it.

03

Claude says AI assistant access is turned off for this workspace

An owner or admin has switched off Allow AI assistants under Settings → AI assistants. Your connection is kept, and works again as soon as they turn it back on. If the workspace's subscription has lapsed, the same page says so and links to billing.

04

Claude connected, but cannot see wages or cannot send text in

Those two permissions were unticked when you allowed access. Open Settings → AI assistants in Relai, choose Edit access on the Claude connection and turn them on. Access you turn on takes effect when Claude next connects, so start a new chat.

05

Claude stopped working after you changed your password

Changing your password or signing out of all devices disconnects your assistants too. Connect again from Claude.
